Identified Flying Objects [2025]
Archive images, newspaper
Identified Flying Objects is a serie of found photographs from french UFO reports website. This project compiles images that were later explained scientifically, and that are, in some cases, even laughable.
Psychosocial hypothesis argues that UFO reports are best explained by psychological or social means. It is often contrasted with the better-known extraterrestrial hypothesis, and is particularly popular in the United Kingdom, especially in the pages of the Magonia magazine or the ones of the Fortean Times. It has also been influential in France since the publication in 1977 of Michel Monnerie’s book, Et si les ovnis n'existaient pas? (What if UFOs did not exist?).
All photographs belong to category “A” classified UFO reports by GEIPAN (the French Study and Information Group on Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena) listing them as perfectly identified phenomena. All images, cases, and reports can be found online at cnes-geipan.fr.
